Verlegt Wagner-baas Prigozjin focus op Afrika na tegenslagen in Oekraïne?

Huurlingenbaas Jevgeni Prigozjin ontkent dat hij voor de aftocht kiest in Oekraïne, waar zijn Wagnergroep met zware tegenslagen kampt. Toch zijn er aanwijzingen dat hij zijn focus zou verleggen op activiteiten in Afrika.

Na een maandenlange loopgravenstrijd, waarin de Russische huurlingenbaas Jevgeni Prigozjin zich met zijn Wagnergroep opwierp als redder van het Russische leger, lijkt zijn beruchte formatie zowel politiek als militair in snel tempo terrein te verliezen. Afgelopen week schreef persbureau Bloomberg op basis van anonieme bronnen dat Prigozjin van plan zou zijn om Wagners activiteiten in Oekraïne af te schalen en zijn blik te verleggen naar het Afrikaanse continent. Daar is Wagner al jaren actief in de beveiliging van staatshoofden en strategische objecten, in ruil voor lucratieve grondstoffendeals.
